Broede's Broodings has left a new comment on the post "...doing harm to the patient.":
One of the problems we have, klcouncil, is that we have far too many Alzheimer's care-givers far, far more concerned about themselves than about their patients. They are whiners who forget how to love. And when that happens, they ought to turn over their responsibilities to others. Instead, they need to be under care themselves. They need treatment. And lots of respite. Then maybe some day they can go back to care-giving. The sad thing is that many of them don't have a clue that they are doing harm, not only to themselves, but to their patients. Yes, it's a two-pronged harm. So sad. --Jim Broede

it is important to watch AD people and try and figure out what is going on with them in so far as, self-consciouness (self-esteem) sickness, discomfort with glasses, hygiene, denture problems, bathroom problems (how in the hell do you figure it OUT)

Been awhile since I posted---MIL is more aggitated---mainly in the morning MIL has no-one to deal with her during these hours (WAKE UP TO 9AM ) PRIMARY CAREgiver sleep during these hours due to late nght/ early morning paper route...
MIL becomes confused and thus harder to manage during the day---
still able to redirect and eating well---however stress factors is tolling on family must make better care arrangemnt during early morning hours---may have MIL picked up for day care services and returned home at 12pm----
hopefully this will not add to confusion---
MIl moved from masterbed room to another on (4/24) this seemed to cause confusion problems and we are still adjusting---
mil is eating and sleeping well---however I would more assistance from MIls family and more input and ideas regarding the attention she needs...
if family fails to increase their efforts of support caregiver will have to use other methods of care assistance (which is sure to increase MILS confusion and could trigger a long relaspe)---
klcouncil
Hello still here been busy with trying to sort out ways to curb MILS rambling and refusal to follow instruction regarding health and safety----
what I have found is the need for more family intervention---
although that appears not to be forthcoming---I not inclined to place MIl in daycare or nursing home fearing a total relapse and increased confusion---wife and I are sharing caregiving duties---
redirection has required require mild restraining in rocking chair with loose restraints, timeouts taken in backyard with dog, and lose of privileges to eat sweets...
I must say it is not working well---although the restraint to chair seems to have the best results (MIl seems to calm down as she attempts to figure out how to release herself from the loose restraint---not allowed to be alone in room while restrained...)
Ate well (malt o meal toast OJ)---planning to walk before even meal and do yard work...
4/28 turned out tot be a pretty go day---
worked in the yard for a few hours planted flowers and mil swept---
tried to do too much with flowers and sweeping she seems to wish to demand her independence which i think is a good idea at times---
its simply hard for the caregiver determine when this independecne is healthy and when it poses a threat to safety or others...
again keeping through records is essential to pass on information to other caregivers and doctors---
records help us define and a partern as well gives others insight into what we do on daily basis---
4-28 mil played ball with grand daughter, read for an hour with grandson and was in general good mood after having to be (mildly) restrained in morning hours---
mil doing well today relaxing in garage as I type this blog (in garage with her)---
nice day and the suns out the wind is high however its a bright and sunny day---
thx for carin
